I can't think of another comedian that divides opinions so much. Most people I have spoken to about him either seem to adore him or hate him. And I've never understood why those who hate him blame it on the idea that he's arrogant. Is it just that they don't understand he's using irony? I've noticed it's the same with little Karly Pilkoids. Obviously, we love him, but some people just don't understand what makes him funny. If I had my way Karl would be running the country. Oh...maybe not.   |

Like him or loath him, half the time Ricky is joking and the other half of the time he's being a genuine arrogant prick. But he himself admits that, either way I love him  The only people he seems to piss off are people I dislike anyway, religious zelots for one, that or people who 'don't get' his style of comedy. |

Yeah, most people that hate him think he's arrogant or just like David Brent because they don't understand that that's his schtick and/or they don't understand irony. It took me a little while to realise first of all too. I can imagine if you didn't realise he was being ironic you would hate him, the amount he goes on about his awards lol.

That's one of the main reasons Ricky himself hates his 'Meet Ricky Gervais show', because people told him that they REALLY thought he thought famine was a good idea for example. Ricky then said something like "I'd have called myself Billy Bigot if I'd known that".
That and people seem to dislike anyone who isn't the industry standard 'good looking', whihc is pathetic really.
