It's ridiculous isn't it?
This part summed it up really well: "There was a big hooplah about how mean and controversial they were, but the material seemed pretty consistent with his previous shows. Why would you hire Ricky Gervais to host a show and then act surprised when Ricky Gervais shows up?"
It's almost as if these people hired him just because they know he is popular, rather than the fact that they actually wanted him and had seen much (if any at all) of his stand up gigs, hmmmm.
