....the radio show right? It works like a flying machine 'ennit"
Ricky drives at the helm, turning the steering wheel, though not usually looking where he is going. He is the captain and has his name on the side of the boat in massive obnoxious lettering.
Karl is in the engine room, shovelling stories about monkeys and two fellas with web hands and big heads, into a giant generator. Sort of like coal on an old train.
Steve is like the first mate who keeps everything shipshape, sort of a general assistnt to the captain, but keeps the captain happy, keeps the workers happy etc. Could also be compaired to a referree in a wrestling match.
I have thought about this for a while, what do you reckon to that analysis?

Couldn't agree more. A "very apt simile". Bonus points if you can tell me who I'm quoting there!

Heh, thanks Hmm, is that quote from a Ricky Gervais show comment or something? If not then I have no idea

It was the expert Karl asks about cockroaches who works in the Natural History Museum. Karl got her name wrong on air, then when she emailed in to let them know the week after, Karl still wasn't sure what it was haha.
Karl says he's heard they can hold their breath for ages and she says "No, it's not a very apt simile" because they don't have lungs, then questions his sources, which pleases Ricky and Steve.

Ha yeah now I know what you mean, I love long words confusing Karl, he gets that 'cat look' on his face that Ricky frequently tells us about, haha.

An update on this (hello again btw ), Karl says in that show that cockroaches have 18 knees and the expert says it's not possible. I was watching Brainiac: Science Abuse on Sky the other day and was shocked when I heard them say exactly that, that cockroaches have 18 knees (they also mentioned they can live weeks without a head of course)! I reckon knee isn't the most apt simile, but looking at the cockroaches legs when they did a close-up shot of it, it was clear they basically just mean that each of its legs has three joints. Also looking at your analysis again it still holds up. It's clear Ricky is the dominant one and the leader, the driving force. He makes sure Karl keeps doing the podcasts and furthering his career and he keeps on prodding him so he keeps churning out dynamite. Steve is the mediator and a sort of unifying force. He's like the glue holding it together. Whilst I think they could still do the show without him and it'd still be funny, whereas it would be a lot without either Ricky or Karl, it just wouldn't be the same. Steve's presence and wit takes the show to a new level. And of course Karl is the engine. He's the reason we all listen. Him shovelling coal is equivalent to all the ridiculous info he shovels into his brain off the internet; the expulsion of steam his expulsion of utter drivel/comedy gold. Finally, OT, devastated the shows had to be taken down, I've had to start downloading them. Do we have a reason?

Welcome back I said as much in another thread, but basically Karl has gotten a lot more famous in the past few months, mostly due to Idiot Abroad. So I can only assume XFM have been told by someone else that they don't want people to get stuff for free, even if it is old stuff. I really doubt XFM honestly care what people are doing with a 10 year old radio show (with the songs cut out), and the pressure is being put on them from elsewhere to do something about it.
